Siemens will supply ten sets for Brigthline.

Siemens Mobility has won the first competition in the United States for the supply of high-speed sets. For Brightline West, it will supply high-speed trains for the line from Las Vegas to California.

The victory in the competition was announced by Siemens in a press release. Construction of the new line began in April. These will be new American Pioneer 220 (AP 220) units that will be manufactured in Nevada. Ten sets are to be completed by 2028.

The selection of the manufacturer took over a year. It also includes a 30-year contract for vehicle maintenance, which will take place at the new depot in Sloan, Nevada.

Siemens has already supplied trains for Brigthline to operate in Florida. It employs over 4,500 people in the US. The new unit will travel at a speed of up to 320 kilometers per hour. It will have seven cars, the capacity will be 434-450 people.

In the USA, the construction of the first high-speed line has begun, it will run in the middle of the highway

Track in the middle of the highway

The new line will connect Las Vegas, Nevada with southern California. With a total length of 350 kilometers, the line will be the first truly high-speed railway in the USA. The private company’s project will be significantly supported by the US government, which will send three billion dollars (approx. CZK 70 billion) to the construction. Most of it will be paid for by private capital, the total cost is 6.5 billion dollars (approx. 155 billion CZK). Another 5.5 billion dollars (approx. 130 billion CZK) will cost new vehicles and facilities.
From Las Vegas, the track will lead to the cities of Victor Valley, Hesperia and Rancho Cucamonga, which with a little imagination can be described as suburbs of Los Angeles.

The new line will run along the center lane of the I-15 freeway. The train is supposed to make the journey in two hours, roughly half of what it takes to travel by car. The terminal in Las Vegas will be near the main center (Strip).

Brightline chose a route that is one of the most frequented in the US: over 50 million trips are made annually between Las Vegas and cities in southern California. The carrier is also counting on the growing interest in congress tourism in Las Vegas. In California, over 17 million people will be within 25 miles of a VRT.
Although the investor does not specify a completion date, a number of politicians at the start of construction expressed the hope that high-speed trains could run as early as 2028, when the Summer Olympics will be held in Los Angeles.
