At the end of April, the Czech korfball team completed the world championship in beach korfball. She finally won bronze in Thailand, and thanks to Jitka Pavlíčková, Znojmo was also represented.

In the first match of the World Championship, the Czech national team was not enough against the reigning world champions from Poland and lost by the narrowest margin of 5:6 after a balanced course. The second duel against Portugal, which was defending the position of vice-champion from the 2022 World Cup at the championship, did not work out for the Czech team, when it was 0:1 at the half-time break and the second half ended with the same ratio, and the overall result 0:2 was the poorest in terms of baskets in the course of the championship so far. The Czechs can regret two unconverted penalties and without a scored basket it is difficult to get points.

“In the following match, the Czech national team won for the first time, defeating the outsider of the group 14:8. However, the victory did not come easily, as the Czechs were losing 0:2 at the beginning of the match and the score was 4:4 at halftime. In the second half, the Scots they kept within range, but in the end they no longer had enough strength and the Czechs expertly led the match to the winning end and thus kept their hope of advancing to the quarter-finals. The last match of the first day was excellent for the Czech team and they crushed the helpless Australian team with an excellent performance 12:1,” he described for Czech korfball players Josef Pavlíček.
On the second day of play, the Czech national team finished the basic group with a 12:8 victory over India, mainly thanks to an excellent first half in which they lost 1:2, but with seven consecutive hits they turned the score around to 8:2 and easily led the match to won and secured third place in the basic group to advance to the quarterfinals. In the quarter-finals, the Czech Republic again faced an unpleasant opponent from the Iberian Peninsula, Portugal, against whom our selection failed to score in the basic group and lost 0:2. This time, however, ours fared much better, even though it was again a tense battle with a minimum of baskets. The Czechs were able to take the lead in the first half and eventually win 3:1 and advance to the top four teams in the world.

“In the evening semi-final, the Czechs showed a fighting performance, but they could not win against the star-studded Netherlands, when they lost 2:5 in the middle of the match and eventually lost 3:9. Znojmo korfball was represented by Jitka Pavlíčková from the MS YMCA Znojmo club, who, as the only player in the Czech Republic, now has all three bronze medals from the European and World Korfball Championships.
