FN Plzeň, the largest medical facility in the south-west of Bohemia, wants to invest a ninth of this year’s expected budget, which is supposed to amount to 11.25 billion crowns. The turnover of the hospital last year was 11 billion, and the FN ended that year with a positive result of 850 million crowns. A hospital according to its director Wenceslas Shimánka completed several major projects financed from European funds, the state budget and its own resources.

Other investments last year included, for example, the complete reconstruction of the building of the Transfusion Department, the construction of a new stationary unit for the Clinic of Pneumology and Phthisiology, or the reconstruction of elevators in Lochotín and delivery rooms. FN also gave money for the purchase of real estate to build a new bistro on the premises in Bory.

“These five projects include, for example, the completion of the large-scale reconstruction of the Metabolic ICU at the I. internal clinic, the total cost of which was 109 million crowns. Another project was the restoration and modernization of imaging technology with a total value of 360 million crowns,Šimánek gave an example.

This year’s investment plan assumes that FN will give 840 million from its own resources and 410 million from subsidies, of which 80 percent will come from the EU and 20 percent from the state budget. This year, FN Plzeň succeeded in the IROP program with five projects with a total subsidy of 240 million crowns for the development of cyber security. The National Recovery Plan program will help the hospital with the purchase of equipment for oncology and hemato-oncology for a total of 300 million crowns and with the acquisition of a robotic rehabilitation device for a total of 50 million, of which 20 million is a subsidy.

“Completing the construction of new workplaces at the Cardiology Clinic for 180 million crowns is essential for us this year. We are also participating in the call for support for the construction of the infectious disease pavilion, where we expect total costs of up to one billion crowns and we could receive a subsidy of around 400 million crowns. At the same time, we are ready to compete with the construction contractor for the surgical pavilion, where the project documentation is ready. An optimistic estimate aims to start construction by 2025,” explained Šimánek.

This year, the hospital estimates total costs at 11.25 billion crowns. Of this, four billion will go to material consumption and over two billion to medicines. The hospital also expects an increase in personnel costs, where it expects costs of 5.25 billion crowns. Last year, FN Pilsen performed 1,085,558 outpatient examinations, 60,542 hospitalizations and 2,801 births.
