The number of tourists in all regions grew. Only not in the Pardubice region

The Czech Statistical Office (ČSÚ) published data on tourism for the first quarter of this year. And the data are not favorable for the Pardubice region. The number of visitors increased everywhere, only the Pardubice region saw fewer tourists than last year.

In the entire country, the number of visitors increased by 10% in the first three months of this year, relatively the most in Prague (by 16.9%) and the Vysočina Region (by 15.0%). All regions improved, except for one – the Pardubice region.

“In the 1st quarter of 2024, a total of 89.3 thousand guests stayed in mass accommodation facilities1 in the Pardubice Region, which is 1.5 thousand (i.e. 1.6%) fewer guests compared to the same period last year,” according to the statistician’s report .

The number of guests from the Czech Republic in the region (residents) in the 1st quarter of this year decreased by 1.3% year-on-year (to 77.9 thousand), guests from abroad (non-residents) traveled to the region by 3.7% less (11.4 thousand).

The paradox is that even though the region did worse in overall numbers and in comparison with others, looking at the history of the region, these were not bad data at all.

“Despite the mentioned decrease, the number of guests in the region was above average in the long term. It was the second highest in this period in the last 13 years after the peak in the 1st quarter of 2023,” says the CZSO report.

From the point of view of the individual months of this year’s 1st quarter, the largest number of guests were accommodated in mass tourism accommodation facilities in the region in March, namely 31.1 thousand (by 382 persons less than in the same month last year) – this was also the second highest number of visitors in March after the last thirteen years.

February’s attendance (30.4 thousand guests, 955 less than last year) was the third highest for this month in a long-term perspective, and January’s (27.8 thousand guests, 127 less than last year’s January) the fifth highest since January 2012.

“The average number of overnight stays per guest in the 1st quarter of 2024 in the region (2.6 nights) corresponded to the average of the Czech Republic. In an inter-regional comparison, this was the eighth highest value, with the maximum in the Karlovy Vary region (3.7 nights) and the minimum in the South Moravian region (1.7 nights). There were 2.6 nights per domestic guest in the region, and 2.3 nights for foreign guests,” the statistics add.
