Roudnice nad Labem – On Tuesday, May 14, the most diligent Czech author of all time – the writer Jan Bauer – will come to the Roudnice Ervín Špindler Library. The talk with him will start in the library hall at 5:30 p.m., the entrance fee is CZK 150.

Jan Bauer writes historical novels, historical detective stories and non-fiction. He lives alone in southern Bohemia with eight cats and five dogs. He spends several hours every day writing.

“I’m a utility writer, I never wanted to win any prizes. What did Franz Kafka get if he only became famous after his death. Hašek did not enjoy any fame either. I am satisfied with the way it is now, and that it still works for me,” he said in an interview for Idnes.cz in 2016.

The most popular among readers are Bauer’s books with the New Town mayor Jakub Protiva and the monk Blasio. This is the author’s longest series, which has 21 parts. Although Jan Bauer is known for often letting his imagination run wild in his novels and not avoiding eroticism, he tries to adhere to all historical realities. Monk Blasius is his all-time favorite character.
