Dallas eliminated the Clippers in the NBA, Mitchell’s 50 points were not enough for Cleveland

--

The Mavericks allowed the opponent to take a narrow lead only once, at the end of the first half, but they won the third quarter 35:20 and once again got the development under control. Kyrie Irving scored 30 points, Luka Dončič had 28 points, 13 assists and 7 rebounds. The Mavericks eliminated the Clippers in the first round for the first time in their three series in the last five years. They will begin the second round against Oklahoma on Tuesday.

“I was physically quite tired after the first half, but it was still a game that anyone could win. We hit the first few shots in the third quarter, held on and didn’t let go,” Irving said. “We are an unselfish team, that’s what makes us beautiful,” he added.

The team from Los Angeles was again missing the injured Kawhi Leonard, the best scorer was Norman Powell with 20 points. The Clippers were eliminated in the first round for the second year in a row.

Cleveland quarterback Mitchell was doing what he could. He hit 22 of 39 shots, even scoring all 18 of his team’s points in the final quarter. It was this part that decided the winner: the Cavaliers entered it with a five-point lead, but the home Magic won it 30:18 and forced a seventh game.

“We will be ready for the seventh game. We play very well at home and that’s not going to change,” Cleveland coach JB Bickerstaff said. In the series, his team succeeded at home in all three matches, but lost all of them away from home. The last time the Cavaliers played the seventh game was in 2018 and they managed it against Boston.

Paolo Banchero led the home team with 27 points and 8 rebounds, followed by Franz Wagner with 26 points. “We’ve learned enough during the series to know what applies to the opponent. We already know what it takes to win,” said Banchero. Orlando is fighting for its first advance to the second round of the playoffs since 2010, when it advanced to the conference finals. The seventh duel is scheduled for Sunday.
