Stellantis brings internal combustion engines back into play, it has a big advantage

--

The discrepancy between political regulations and the real market situation continues to widen, and it is already clear that plans for the rapid complete eradication of conventional combustion engines were overly optimistic. Therefore, Stellantis, through the mouth of its financial director Natalie Knight, stated that it is still keeping all options on the table, including retrofitting a hybrid or even a purely combustion drive into models originally presented and intended to be purely battery-powered. Stellantis’ advantage in this is that its new STLA platforms are multi-drive, making this move relatively easy. That this is a completely new decision is evidenced by the contradiction with the recent speech of the new director of Jeep, Antonio Filosa, who categorically ruled out additional hybridization of the Wagoneer S model. And his words are no longer valid today.

Today, according to Autoblog, the official locations of the car manufacturer allow the later addition of a gasoline engine. Maybe a hybrid, maybe even a purely internal combustion engine. A similar process awaits the upcoming Recon model and even the Avenger, introduced in Europe as a pure electric car, has already quietly received a hybrid version. The new, purely electric Dodge Charger can also look forward to the later installation of an in-line three-liter six-cylinder engine. And after all, even the current Fiat 500e, presented exclusively as a BEV, will probably receive an internal combustion engine, so that Fiat does not lose customers of the current generation of the 500, which just now had to stop production due to new technical regulations.
