This awesome feature made my jaw drop!

• Google Pixel phones are soon to arrive in the Czech Republic
• From my point of view, these are very good devices and I was blown away by my Pixel 7 Pro
• When I discovered its “What’s Playing” feature, my chin almost dropped (really!)

Although Google is one of the main pioneers in the field of search and artificial intelligence, it also produces interesting hardware products. Many Czech consumers do not know about them, because the official Google Store is still not available in our country and the company does not advertise Pixel smartphones here. However, this should soon change, as according to earlier speculations, Pixel devices will soon enter the Czech market after many years. So let’s imagine one of the many reasons why your next Android phone should be Google’s baby.

I have been using the Google Pixel 7 Pro for almost two months now, i.e. the predecessor of the current flagship model, and I can’t say enough about its user interface in particular. Pure Android with wide personalization options and great features is simply amazing. One of the gadgets that I find simply and simply brilliant is “What’s Playing” (in the English original Now Playing).

Music search even offline!

You know it. You’re driving in your car and listening to the radio, or walking through town and you hear music playing, and that’s when you realize it’s your favorite song. But for God’s sake you can’t remember his name, let alone who the performer is. In this situation, you would probably fire up the Shazam app, if you have it installed, and have the song searched for. However, Pixel phones offer, at least in my opinion, a much smarter solution.

The What’s Playing feature serves essentially the same purpose as Shazam or similar tools. The main competitive advantage, if we ignore the fact that it is part of the system and therefore you do not have to install anything lengthy, is the ability to search for a song even when you are offline. I’ve driven several times without Wi-Fi or cellular data access, and yet my Pixel was able to determine what song was playing on the radio.

How to do it?

You can simply turn on this useful gadget in the settings (I recommend typing “What’s playing” in the search field), and once you do so, your Pixel will display the title and artist of the song currently playing on the lock screen. If you use always-on displaythe information will also be displayed on it.

After that, you only need to click on the text with the title and author of the song, which will take you to the history of the function after unlocking the phone. There you will see all the identified tracks, which you can then play listen in full via available streaming platforms – I have Spotify and YouTube Music installed on my phone, so the app gives me a choice between the two. There is also a sharing option, with which you can send a song to your friends as a result of a Google search.

Occasionally, the Pixel may not be able to identify the song that is playing based on database stored on the device – thanks to it, Co to play works even without internet access. For these cases, it is useful to enable the “Show search button on the lock screen” option in the function settings.
