HATTIESBURG — Southern Miss baseball is at home this weekend for a crucial Sun Belt Conference series against Coastal Carolina.

The Golden Eagles (28-17, 12-9 Sun Belt) are weathering a storm of pitching injuries but rallied for a 5-4 victory over New Orleans on Tuesday. Gabe Broadus delivered the go-ahead hit in the eighth inning and Colby Allen was stupendous out of the bullpen to shut the door in the final two innings.

Coastal Carolina (27-17, 11-10) is one game behind Southern Miss in the conference standings but has an RPI of 23 to Southern Miss’ 46. The Chanticleers have lost five straight games and six of their last seven. Last weekend, they were swept at home by Troy while being outscored 34-13. Coastal Carolina has a powerful offense though that’s scored 398 runs, the 12th most in the country. Third baseman Sam Antonacci is fourth in the country in on-base percentage (.550).
