The accident happened on Saturday on the D1 highway behind Bohumín in the direction of Poland. A tractor carrying a tank stopped at the roadside for a demonstration event. A car stopped behind him and then a truck ran into it.
There was practically nothing left of the car. There is no chance against such a huge force. The tragic accident took place on Saturday on the D1 highway, specifically at 376.5. kilometer beyond Bohumín towards the Polish border.
Tragic accident on the D1 highway
The accident started when the driver of a tractor, transporting a tank for a demonstration event, stopped at the shoulder. Another car stopped behind him for unclear reasons. Subsequently, the driver of a tractor transporting loaded passenger cars flew into it and was unable to stop in time.
The tractor loaded with cars completely crushed the passenger car against the second parked truck with its enormous weight and force. There is basically nothing left.
Unfortunately, the consequences are tragic. “It was no longer possible to help one person who remained wedged in a crashed car, the doctor had to declare death,” said the spokesman for rescuers, Lukáš Hampl. Another person from the completely destroyed car suffered very serious injuries and is in critical condition.
He had to be extricated, he suffered multiple injuries, the rescuers had to put him into artificial sleep and connect him to controlled pulmonary ventilation. He was subsequently transported by helicopter to the hospital in Ostrava. Rescuers also transported one person with an injured leg there, probably the driver of one of the trucks.
The D1 highway is closed until late afternoon
The police are investigating the cause of the accident on the spot. It will check the technical condition of the car tractor and also whether the driver was sufficiently dedicated to driving.
The D1 motorway in the direction of Poland remains closed until late Saturday afternoon. Drivers must use detour routes through Bohumín.
