A winter tire works better than a summer tire, even if there is no snow, ice or ice on the road. The rule of thumb is that if the thermometer reads less than seven degrees, summer coats are no longer suitable for driving.
The reason is that summer tire compounds become brittle, harden at such temperatures and the tire does not do its job properly. It slides more than you might think, which is a problem both when braking, cornering and starting.
On the other hand, even winter tires have their limit, temperatures above 15 °C do not work well for them in the long term, as they lose some of their grip and, above all, their braking capabilities. However, the long-term weather forecast is currently reporting that such temperatures should be over, so it seems like the perfect time to change shoes.
