The largest European car manufacturer brings the ID.7 model to the Czech market. It is currently available in a sedan version, but we should also expect a station wagon version later this year. Performance is more than sufficient and a real range of around five hundred kilometers.
When Volkswagen started selling its first ID-branded electric car on the Czech market four years ago, it was a disappointment for many. Not only because of the price, but also because of the slow and freezing infotainment and the not very good interior.
But the ID.7 model is a completely different song. Although it still stands on the MEB platform, it continues to use an electrical architecture with a voltage of 400 Volts (in the world of electric cars it is gradually moving to 800 Volts), but the price-performance ratio is basically at the level of combustion cars and, above all, this car has functions that electric car drivers they demanded from the very beginning.
You can view the car in detail in the photo gallery.
I mean, for example, that the car can very realistically calculate the range according to the current state of battery charge. At the same time, it takes into account both the external temperature and the altitude profile of the route (which, of course, you have to enter in advance in the built-in navigation), as well as the proportion of highways and roads with lower speed limits and, finally, also the driving style of the driver.
It is also possible (again after entering the location of the charging station in the navigation), or by pressing a button on the multimedia display, to preheat during the remaining travel time to the charger to a temperature at which charging will take place the fastest. You will not waste your time unnecessarily. Recharging is possible from a home wallbox with an output of 11 kW, with a stand with direct current up to 175 kW.
You can see a short video with the official presentation of the car here:
The already very good quality of materials in the interior and good standard equipment are also pleasant. This includes, for example, a head-up display, a heat pump, two charging cables or heating of the front seats and windshield.
Volkswagen ID.3 underwent modernization. It is prettier and also cheaper
The car is just beginning to be offered on the Czech market, as well as in the discounted People version. Compared to the basic price tag of almost 1,480,000, it is more expensive by approximately fifty thousand kroner (it is exactly 1,531,900 CZK), but it includes elements that are worth almost 190,000 CZK. Basically, the customer will save almost CZK 130,000.
“We have added elements to this version that most customers order anyway,” explains Jakub Šebesta – head of the Volkswagen passenger car division of Porsche Czech Republic. For example, according to him, these include larger wheels, metallics, steering wheel heating, Matrix headlights and a number of other things .
You don’t choose the engine
A person ordering a Volkswagen ID.7 does not have to worry about the engine. It always gets a 285-horsepower electric motor driving the rear wheels.
For now, a battery with a usable capacity of 77 kWh is stored under the floor, which is the same as, for example, in the case of ID.3 cars. ID.4 and ID.5, but the upcoming GTX variant will have an energy reserve of up to 86 kWh. It should be able to travel at least seven hundred kilometers on a single charge in the WLTP mode, but the regular variant also has a very solid 621.
It was possible to improve the range thanks to better aerodynamics of the used body shape and perhaps also by improving the engine. It is better cooled and although the power of the unit has increased by 40 percent compared to the previous version and the torque by even 75 percent, it has lower consumption. On paper, depending on the equipment, it is between 14.3 and 16.1 kWh per hundred kilometers.

And also, compared to the previous ID, the weight of individual parts of the car was reduced. For example, the sunroof no longer has a blind, and all doors and the trunk lid are made of aluminum. That alone saved thirty kilograms.
Even in practice, the range will be solid. People from Volkswagen think that, for example, compared to the SUV ID.4 or ID.5, the range is approximately a quarter longer under the same conditions. In the summer, it should be enough for more than five hundred kilometers, unless of course you drive only on the highway and at the maximum speed limit.
Less interest in cars in our country will continue next year, says Jakub Šebesta from VW
The Volkswagen ID.7 is another one that gets a new interior layout. This means, for example, that the transmission mode selector is on the right-hand side of the steering column, and the transmission control has also moved to the indicator stalk. You can still adjust the temperature of the air conditioning by dragging your finger along the bar under the central display. Fortunately, it’s already backlit now, so you shouldn’t have to turn up the radio instead of warming up. The volume control of the audio system is located on the same bar, just next to it.
The space is generous
It will take some time to get used to the new way of controlling the air conditioning. For example, exhausts no longer have levers or wheels for manual adjustment, everything is done through the display. But it is also possible to choose automatic mode, which then determines the direction of the air flow itself. It’s the same with seat heating and ventilation. They can now even massage your thighs and, in addition, dry your sweaty back with simultaneous ventilation and heating.
A number of functions can be turned on and off by voice. It should be enough to say “Hello Ida” and make a request. But during the practical test, we didn’t get along very well with this voice assistant. Next time, I’ll try to babble less.
Volkswagen renews its offensive: What new cars are it planning for the next two years
With the new ID.7, I had the opportunity to drive dozens of kilometers on the roads in the Příbram region. I was satisfied with the noise reduction of the chassis and the aerodynamic noise on the highway, and on the road with the remains of asphalt, then again the chassis going over bumps without shaking and sound.
The average consumption at the finish line was 22 kWh according to the on-board computer, but it is true that I took the car over cold and more than once tried, for example, full acceleration. In addition, the outside temperature was relatively close to zero. In spring and summer temperatures and with a normal driving style, real consumption can be expected to be relatively well below 20 kWh per hundred kilometers.
It will not be a problem to go with the ID.7 even on relatively long journeys. And also at four. There is really a lot of space for rear passengers behind the front seats. The volume of the trunk is sufficient to transport the luggage of a family traveling for a weekend or a shorter vacation, and its usability is also improved by the relatively large opening in the middle of the rear backrest. The opening for loading is also large, as the entire rear, including the rear window, folds out. The front trunk is not available. So you have to store the cables in a box under the floor, which might not be great if you have a trunk full of heavy items.
