Subaru Legacy to end due to low sales. But his legacy will not die

--

The Japanese sedan has to deal with a lack of interest from customers. This is also why his journey will definitely end next year. At least in its current form with internal combustion engines.

The Subaru Legacy is also very well remembered in Europe. The sedan, from which the Japanese automaker derived the very popular Kombi version and the even more popular Outback derivative with higher clearance and protective plastic body elements, stands out for its excellent driving performance. However, this model disappeared from the Czech market already in the previous generation. And it also experienced the end in other world markets, for example in Australia and even in its home country of Japan.

Sales of the Subaru Legacy began to stagnate in 2020, shortly after the introduction of the current, already seventh version of the model, whose roots go back to 1989. In the United States, which is absolutely pivotal for the Japanese brand, the legacy did not have a bad year last year. That’s when sales rose a respectable 12.9%. This year, however, the Japanese sedan is not doing well. From January to March, 13.1 percent fewer specimens were registered. The best year for the Subaru Legacy in the US was 2016 with 65,306 vehicles.

The Legacy was once the first Subaru to be built in America (at the Lafayette, Indiana plant), with over 1.3 million units sold in the country since 1989.

The Japanese automaker has already announced that it will have eight electric cars in its portfolio by 2028. And the locally emission-free successor to the Subaru Legacy could be among them.
