Four new Nissan concepts are presented at the Beijing Auto Show. A pair of sedans bucks the SUV trend, while another pair of SUVs cements it.

Increasingly popular crossovers and SUVs rule the European car market. Surprisingly, however, this is not the case everywhere in the world, and the ongoing Auto China 2024 auto show in Beijing is an interesting demonstration. The Japanese Mazda, in cooperation with the domestic automaker Changan, unveiled the new electric Mazda EZ-6 there, and Nissan is also presenting two concepts of new sedans there. It would be fair to say that the Japanese are breaking today’s SUV trend.

The new design studies from Nissan are officially named Epoch and Here and let the world know that sedans are still not dead. Especially in the flourishing Chinese market, they appear in greater numbers than here in Europe. However, Nissan’s designers and engineers didn’t develop the pair of new concept sedans on their own, as they teamed up with local automaker Dongfeng Motor.

The great news, at least for China, is the fact that it will most likely appear on production lines in the future. Makoto Uchida, CEO of Nissan, revealed at the official launch that both concepts are close to production models. The Nissan Epoch (gold concept) is expected to go into production within a year, while the Evo (silver concept) will arrive later.

Understandably, Nissan used the motor show to present studies of two new SUVs along with two sedans. The first one is electric Epic (orange concept) with two-way charging, the other a plug-in hybrid Era (purple concept) with air chassis and quad. At the same time, both share a design language with the new sedans. The automaker expects both to go on sale within the next three years.
