The plastic “hormone” of destruction

The harmful effect of bisphenol on human health and hormonal balance has been studied in recent years by a number of studies, and a large part of them agree that we should avoid these substances, according to the US National Library of Medicine avoid as a precaution.

In connection with BPA, the suspicion of a negative impact on brain development, heart damage or the development of diabetes, obesity or cancer is most often discussed. The effect of hormonal changes (bisphenol behaves like synthetic estrogen in the body) can also be the cause infertility in men and women, possibly endocrinological diseases such as polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), endometriosis, etc.

They are then the most vulnerable the smallest children, as they do not have the ability to break down this substance from the body as fast as adults. Where can we find harmful plastics?

They are very often part of plastic dishes, food cans, boxes (including disposable ones in which imported food is transported) and zip bags, sports bottles or shakers, packaging for cosmetics, as well as the inner walls of cans and cans. As we have already mentioned, their presence in children’s dishes, toys, clothes, pacifiers or plastic clips is no exception.

  • The only products where their use is clearly prohibited by the European authorities are baby bottles.
  • Very often these they use harmful plastics in the production of cheap goods, which is sold (or resold in our country) from foreign virtual shopping markets, especially Chinese ones, where the regulations on material quality are not as strict as for other manufacturers. So if you buy kitchen equipment, food storage or cosmetics or toys and other items for children right here, then it is very likely that it contains BPA.

However, the use of these plastics is very diverse. They are also added to medical devices, safety equipment, car parts, electronics, or even special paper used for receipts and receipts from cash registers in shops, in parking lots or in machines or ATMs.

How does BPA get into our body?

Based on the wide use of plastics, the main problem is that we come into contact with BPA in various ways during the day more often than we would think. We can do it that way drink, eat or inhale.

Bisphenol A is mainly released as a result of long-term exposure (risky, for example, with perishable foods, packaged drinks, canned goods, cosmetics, etc.) or heat. Every time plastic dishes, boxes and bottles are heated in the microwave, the amount of released substance increasesas well as frequent washing of dishes in the dishwasher, etc. In addition, this risk increases even more if the surface of the plastic product is damaged or scratched (repeated scrubbing with a dish sponge is enough), or if it comes into contact with greasy food.
