Tests on Friday confirmed 1,852 new cases of covid-19. It was a similar number to a week ago, when there were only six fewer cases. In contrast, there was a significant decrease in hospitalized patients with a positive test for the new type of coronavirus. There were 658 in hospitals on Friday, almost 200 fewer than on the last working day of the previous week. The number of covid patients fell below 700 after almost seven weeks.

In addition to the new cases of covid infection, hygienists treated 820 suspected re-infections with the new coronavirus on Friday. It was 72 more than the previous Friday.

During the epidemic in the Czech Republic since the beginning of March 2020, tests have confirmed more than 4.04 million cases of coronavirus. In the last six days, the number of new cases has been increasing slightly.

Of the regions, the infection has recently spread most significantly in the Hradec Králové region and in Prague. In eastern Bohemia, there are 119 newly confirmed cases per 100,000 inhabitants in the last seven days, in the capital it is 114. The national weekly incidence has stagnated for the fourth day in a row at 102 cases per 100,000 inhabitants.

There were 658 people in hospitals who tested positive for covid on Friday. 26 of them were in serious condition. Compared to the same day of the previous week, the number of hospitalized patients decreased by 197 and the number of patients in serious condition by 11 cases.

40,846 people have died of covid-19 in the Czech Republic so far. In the last seven days, 49 deaths have been added to the statistics, compared to 56 a week earlier.

About 6.89 million people in the Czech Republic have been fully vaccinated against the serious course of covid-19. 4.3 million people received the first booster dose and 173,700 received the second.

On Friday, 7,388 people were vaccinated, about 1,350 fewer than a week ago. Interest in the vaccine was lower than a week earlier on almost all days of the past week, with the exception of Tuesday. People come especially for the second strengthening dose.
