Prague – On Sunday, there were 178 confirmed cases of coronavirus infection in the Czech Republic, which was 14 percent less than a week ago. Even more significantly, by roughly a fifth, the number of people tested fell. The proportion of detected cases of infection in the number of tests performed increased in all categories compared to the previous Sunday. This follows from data on the website of the Ministry of Health. On Sunday, the number of hospitalized patients with covid-19 also continued to decrease. In a week-on-week comparison, the number of deaths from covid-19 in the past week also decreased.
The gradual slowing down of daily increases in the number of people infected with the coronavirus began at the end of July. Last week, however, the increases compared to the same days of the previous week first increased. Only at the end of the week – on Saturday and Sunday – did the increase in confirmed cases drop again in a week-on-week comparison. Sunday’s number of newly confirmed infections was even the lowest since the beginning of July.
On Sunday, however, the number of tests for the coronavirus was 21 percent lower than a week ago. 550 PCR tests and 545 antigen tests were performed. Due to the decrease in those tested, despite the lower number of newly infected people, the proportion of those tested positive for the number of tests increased. In the most numerous category – diagnostic, when people showing symptoms of the disease are tested, the proportion of positives increased from 21.44 percent on the previous Sunday to 22.24 percent.
Since the beginning of August, the number of people who ended up in hospital with covid-19 has been gradually decreasing. As of Sunday, there were 523 hospitalized patients, which was almost a third less than a week ago and the least since mid-July. 29 patients were in serious condition. The number of deaths of people with covid-19 has also decreased. There were 39 deaths in the past seven days, almost a fifth less than in the previous week.
The so-called incidence number, i.e. the number of new cases of infection in the last seven days per 100,000 inhabitants, also fell slightly. As of today, there were 101 cases, which was one less than Sunday. The incidence number is now the highest in the Hradec Králové region with 121 cases and the lowest in the Karlovy Vary region with 81 cases.
Since the beginning of the epidemic in March 2020, approximately 4.05 million cases of coronavirus infection have been confirmed in the Czech Republic. This number does not include cases where someone has been infected repeatedly. Suspected re-infection is over 309,000. During the entire period of the epidemic, 40,851 people died with covid-19. About 6.89 million people were fully vaccinated against covid-19 in the Czech Republic. More than 4.3 million people received the first booster dose and about 174,000 the second. On Sunday, 71 people were vaccinated, which was about half less than a week ago.
