The number of deaths from covid-19 decreased even more significantly. There were 32 deaths in the last seven days, which was almost half the number in the previous week.
The increase in the number of people infected with the coronavirus continued to accelerate for most of last week. At the weekend, the spread of the infection slowed down for a short time, but Monday and Tuesday again brought higher daily increases in the number of infected. At the same time, however, the number of people tested increased on Monday and Tuesday.
On Tuesday, 5116 PCR tests and 3998 antigen tests were performed, which was almost a tenth more than a week ago.
Due to the higher number of tests, the proportion of detected cases of infection to the number of tested in the most numerous category of tests, diagnostic, did not change significantly. In it, people showing symptoms of the disease are tested. The previous Tuesday, the share of positives in the diagnostic category was 32.82 percent, and this week’s Tuesday was 32.33 percent.
The gradual reduction in the number of hospitalized patients with covid-19, which has been ongoing since the beginning of August, continues. As of Tuesday, there were about seven hundred people in hospitals, while a week ago there were 842 hospitalized. However, the number of seriously ill patients increased from 26 the previous Tuesday to the current 32.
An increase was also recorded in the so-called incidence number, i.e. the number of new cases of infection in the last seven days per 100,000 inhabitants. As of Wednesday, there were 104 cases, which was two more than on Tuesday. The incidence number is still the highest in the Hradec Králové region with 125 cases and the lowest in the Karlovy Vary region with 84 cases.
Since the start of the epidemic in March 2020, over 4.05 million cases of coronavirus infection have been confirmed in the Czech Republic. This number does not include cases where someone has been infected repeatedly. Suspected re-infection is about 312,000. During the entire period of the epidemic, 40,869 people with covid-19 died.
About 6.89 million people were fully vaccinated against covid-19 in the Czech Republic. More than 4.3 million people received the first booster dose and about 182,000 received the second. On Tuesday, 5,024 people were vaccinated, which was about a thousand fewer than a week ago.
