“After much consideration and discussion at home with my family, I have decided to quit smoking,” Snoop Dogg, whose real name is Calvin Broadus, said on Instagram, where he has 82.5 million followers. “Please respect my privacy,” he added.
The announcement may come as a surprise to many fans, as the rapper has never hidden his love for marijuana, and in 2014 even claimed to have smoked it in the restrooms at the White House. Five years later, he amused again by declaring that he has an employee whose only job is to pack joints (marijuana cigarettes) for him.
In 2021, he made it known on the online forum reddit that he indulges in a whopping 81 smoke breaks a day. He regularly mentioned marijuana in his rap lyrics and also invested in Casa Verde Capital, which focuses on cannabis startups.

But some fans speculate that the current Instagram post is just a well-thought-out advertisement for the rapper’s company Leafs By Snoop, which specializes in the breeding of its own varieties of cannabis and the subsequent production of extracts and sweets.
Many social media users were really shocked by the rapper’s announcement. “It’s not April Fool’s day Snoop,” one said. “Snoop without weed is like Earth without water,” wrote another. Some believe that Snoop Dogg’s health may have prompted him to quit smoking. “I had a pulmonary embolism last year and had to quit smoking too,” one fan wrote on Instagram. Another on the X Network speculated that the rapper has decided to “give his lungs a break” but will certainly continue to consume marijuana, just in a different form.
Experts warn that excessive consumption of marijuana can result in anxiety, paranoia and hallucinations and increases the risk of developing schizophrenia, writes the BBC.
