Local police chief Martin Brody discovers the head and part of a woman’s torso on the beach. The doctor is convinced that the woman was killed by a shark. “After 47 years, the forefather of summer blockbusters returns to cinemas, which still manages to frighten,” says film critic Mojmír Sedláček about the famous thriller Jaws.

It’s the return of one of the most seminal films of all time to the big screen. At that time, the young director Steven Spielberg had enormous difficulties with the filming, the shark puppets were destroyed by salt water, part of the filmed material almost drowned in the ocean. The resulting film was very different from the director’s vision.

“The sea killer is shown only rarely, the viewer knows about his presence, but has no idea when and how exactly he will appear,” finally describes the strong point of the film The Hermit, according to which everything is enhanced by the Oscar-winning music of John Williams.

After successful test screenings, the Universal studio decided to support the film with massive advertising and chose a then non-standard summer date for the premiere. “It was then that the term blockbuster came into use, meaning a film for which queues go as far as the corner of the block of flats,” adds Mojmír Sedláček, adding that this hit showed struggling Hollywood the way to global economic dominance.
