Actor Brendan Fraser, who most viewers will know from the Mummy film series, is returning to the big screen. Although the actor did not give much in the last years of acting (at least compared to before), his last film directed by Aronofsky was a great success.
Fraser’s new film The Whale was highly anticipated both by fans of this actor and by fans of director Darren Aronofsky, who has cult films such as Requiem for a Dream or black Swan. The actor is now in the movie The Whale auditioned for the role, which is from his role as Rick O’Connell in the film series Mummy more than diametrically different.
In the new psychological drama, he played Charlie, a middle-aged man weighing almost 300 kilograms. The character will be dealing with his demons from the past, such as leaving his family for his lover, who later died.
But his seventeen-year-old daughter comes on the scene and Charlie makes a resolution to work on his mental and physical health again. In addition to Fraser, Sadie Sink, who we know from the series, will also appear in the cast Stranger Things.
The actor also stated that when his body prostheses (which he wore to make him look fatter) were always removed at the end of a shooting day, this sudden change in body weight made him feel dizzy.
Work on the film was first announced in early 2021 when A24 acquired the rights to Samuel D. Hunter’s stage play of the same name. Hunter also wrote the screenplay for this film and, as mentioned, Darren Aronofsky took over the direction.
At the premiere at the Venice International Film Festival, which Brendan Fraser attended, the creators (and mainly Fraser himself) were rewarded with about six minutes of applause, and Fraser’s reaction to it was very emotional. The responses to the film The Whale so far are generally overwhelmingly positive, on the imdb.com server this film has so far earned a beautiful 8.9/10 points.
