A delegation of 68 representatives of the government, companies and universities from the United Arab Emirates met in Prague with 120 representatives of Czech state offices, companies, universities and research centers. The business forum at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic was opened by the prime minister Petr Fiala together with the Minister of State of the United Arab Emirates Ahmed Al Sayegh. Minister of Finance Zbyněk Stanjura signed an agreement on the avoidance of double taxation with the Emirates, and Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Jiří Kozák led political consultations.

On May 23-24, 2023, a delegation of the United Arab Emirates, led by the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Ahmed Al Sayegh, visited the Czech Republic. Minister Al Sayegh was received by Prime Minister Petr Fiala, met with Minister of Industry and Trade Jozef Síkela and participated in foreign policy consultations with Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Jiří Kozák.

On the occasion of the visit, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in cooperation with other ministries, the Chamber of Commerce, the Union of Industry and Trade and the AVDZP, organized a business forum where almost seven dozen representatives of the Emirati government and government agencies met, including the local space agency, universities, companies and investment funds. with more than 120 Czech counterparts.

The business forum was opened by Prime Minister Fiala. In his speech, he recalled his recent visit to the UAE and meeting with the Emirati president. Minister Al Sayegh highlighted the maturity of the Czech industry and the possibilities for cooperation between the Czech Republic and the UAE in the world. At the beginning of the forum, Minister of Finance Stanjura signed an agreement on the avoidance of double taxation with his Emirati partner, which, after its ratification, will improve the conditions for mutual trade. Jan Rafaj, president of the Union of Industry and Transport, Vladimír Dlouhý, president of the Chamber of Commerce, and on behalf of the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic, prof. David Honys.

“The United Arab Emirates is one of the most important export territories for the Czech Republic outside the EU. Trade is growing and currently exceeds 1 billion US dollars annually. The successful visit of the numerous Emirati mission confirmed the strong interest of both sides in the further development of cooperation, trade and investment.” Deputy Kozák stated.

At subsequent sectoral tables, Czech and Emirati representatives of companies, universities and agencies discussed specific possibilities for cooperation in the following fields: education and university cooperation, energy including renewable resources, agriculture and the environment, advanced technologies, healthcare including health technologies, research and spas, and trade and investment.

Members of the Emirati delegation also personally visited a number of Czech companies and workplaces, including the Czech Technical University, the ELI Beamlines laser workplace, the BIOCEV center and companies such as SpaceKnow and VRgineers. They then signed a memorandum of cooperation with the Czech University of Agriculture. Representatives of the Emirati security sector also visited the IDET fair in Brno.
