According to information from Deník N and Respekt, Pavlo’s predecessor at the head of state, Miloš Zeman, wrote to the BIS inspector before leaving office that he would not release his chancellor from confidentiality in the case of disclosure of secret information. He thus prevented the inspectors from questioning Mynar.

“I can say in principle that I am ready to take that step, because I can’t imagine a single reasonable reason why Vratislav Mynář should not be deprived of confidentiality in order to testify,” said Pavel.

According to his words, he has so far been informed that the BIS request has arrived at the Castle. Now he is waiting for the recommendation of the security director of the presidential office Mladá Princová. “She was investigating what was done by the previous office in that matter, how the requests came in and how they were responded to,” he saidPavel.

In the case of Pavlov’s consent to the release of confidentiality, according to Diary Nto expect that the inspectorate will interrogate Mynár in the same way as it has already interrogated Zeman. The case concerns the former president’s statements from 2021.

That’s when Zeman told Blesk that a BIS officer visited him years ago and revealed to him the information that the director of the civilian counter-intelligence, Michal Koudelka, had in the past ordered wiretapping of people from his immediate surroundings. He added at the time that since he does not have a phone himself and uses the phones of his colleagues, the wiretapping concerns him as well.

The House Committee for Control of the BIS’s Activity returned to Zeman’s accusations last year. She stated that she had no indication that the intelligence service acted illegally in this case. Koudelka confirmed that none of the highest constitutional officials were wiretapped during his tenure as director.
