Štětí – One hundred and fifty grown cannabis seedlings and dried marijuana were discovered by customs officials in Ustěch during a road inspection in recent days.
The red Fabia was picked up by the customs patrol shortly after 7 p.m. on Litoměřická street in Štětí. The thirty-nine-year-old man told the customs officials that he was not taking anything. When checking the luggage compartment, however, customs officials found a box wrapped in black foil. Inside the box they discovered 150 cannabis plants. On the floor of the passenger seat, they also found a tin can containing a dried substance with the typical smell of marijuana, a tube and a grinder.

Called to the scene, the police took over the plants and the man, on suspicion of committing the offense of illegal production and other handling of narcotic and psychotropic substances and poisons, for further action.

During the month of May, Ústí customs officers recorded 15 seizures of narcotic and psychotropic substances during road checks. In the vehicles or their crews, they found almost 252 grams of marijuana and more than 4 grams of methamphetamine, or methamphetamine, as well as several scales, grinders and other property. Tests for the presence of narcotic and psychotropic substances in the body, carried out by a sweat swab, came out positive for four drivers. Customs officials handed over the revealed criminals and drugs to the police for further investigation.

Customs officers are often assisted in detecting drugs by service dogs specially trained to detect narcotic and psychotropic substances.
