Petrovice (Ústí) – Minister of the Interior Vít Rakušan (STAN) will talk with the German Minister of the Interior Nancy Faeser today, the main topic will be the regime on the Czech-German border. Saxon Prime Minister Michael Kretschmer and Saxon Interior Minister Armin Schuster will also take part in the meeting in Petrovice na Ústeck. Faeserová announced on Thursday that Germany is strengthening police patrols at the borders with the Czech Republic and Poland due to illegal migration. The police will be supplemented by mobile units and the police will more intensively carry out so-called hidden random checks. Vít Rakušan said two weeks ago that he does not expect that Germany would introduce regular checks on the border with the Czech Republic due to migration.
Faeserová rejected the demands of the representatives of Saxony and Brandenburg to introduce permanent checks on the borders with the Czech Republic and Poland. He insists that the prerequisite for such a step would be a serious threat to public order and internal security and considers it a “measure of last resort”.
In April, according to data from the Federal Ministry of the Interior, the German police recorded the most cases of illegal border crossing from Poland. It was 2427 cases. She registered nearly 1,300 of them on the border with Austria and about nine hundred on the border with the Czech Republic.
Chancellor Olaf Scholz agreed at a conference with the state prime ministers that, depending on the migration situation, Germany can introduce temporary border controls with its neighbors along the lines of those it has been carrying out since 2015 on the border with Austria. Saxon Interior Minister Armin Schuster together with his Brandenburg colleague Michael Stübgen asked Faeser about checks on the borders with the Czech Republic and Poland.
According to information from the Czech Ministry of the Interior, transit illegal migration is at similar values as in previous years. From the German side, the Czech Republic has no information about any problems, said the Austrian.
Slovakia has now introduced temporary controls at the borders with the Czech Republic, Poland, Austria and Hungary, in order to ensure public order and security during the international conference in Bratislava and also the event of the Hells Angels motorcycle club. The period of possible checks will last until June 8.
