Beware of strong winds! A warning is in effect in these seven regions of the Czech Republic

A low risk for strong winds will be in effect from midday today through Friday morning.

A strong wind is coming to the Czech Republic, warns the Czech Hydrometeorological Institute (ČHMÚ). The warning is in effect from 12 noon on Thursday until Friday morning. A low level of danger applies in the Moravian-Silesian, Zlín, South Moravian, Olomouc, Pardubice and Hradec Králové Regions and in the Vysočina Region. The wind speed could reach 70 kilometers per hour in some places.

Storm Ciarán, which raged in Great Britain in recent days, will bring strong winds to the Czech Republic. According to the institute, strong winds will mainly affect Moravia and Silesia, the Bohemian-Moravian Highlands and eastern Bohemia. People in mountainous areas, where the wind can blow at a speed of up to 110 kilometers per hour, should be especially careful.

“There is a risk of damage to trees and forest stands, possible minor damage to buildings. Risk of injury from loose objects and broken branches, possible complications in transport. It is recommended to secure windows, doors, remove or secure loose objects, secure greenhouses, etc. Take extra care when moving outdoors and when driving vehicles. In the mountains, limit hikes and do not go especially to the ridge areas,” states the ČHMÚ.

On Friday, it will be cloudy and it will rain in most areas, but in the afternoon the clouds will begin to decrease and there could be some sunshine.
