The most noticeable is the behavior of deer, roe deer and other types of ungulates in the forest, where they nibble trees, peel their bark or damage them by knocking out their antlers. Compensation for such damages annually exceeds four billion crowns.
“With a strong bite, not only does biodiversity decrease, but also the stability of forests. In addition, there are significant economic losses – for the entire republic, the costs of forest protection against wild animals can range from around 800 million up to 1.7 billion crowns per year,” emphasized Kamil Turek from the Institute of Forest Management (ÚHÚL).
Annually, hunters shoot more than one hundred thousand pieces of roe deer, and in the last hunting season they again managed to catch a record number of deer (almost 33 thousand) and fallow deer (almost 39 thousand).
