An insane patient demolished the hospital’s facilities. Only the security guard pacified him

The incident happened on Saturday a little after 10:30 in the morning. “The ambulance service brought a patient to the emergency room who was hypothermic and was supposed to have frostbite. They put him on the bed, when he came to himself, he started to show signs of disproportionate aggression,” described Václav Řičář, a spokesman for the Liberec hospital.

The man in the hall tore down the curtains, broke the glass in the reception area and wanted to kick open the glass door. “In the meantime, station brother Zdeněk Jindříšek arranged for the staff to lock themselves in the hall. The patients ran away. The man then ran outside, where our security service was already waiting for him. The breath of fresh air and the stun gun in the security guard’s hand finally worked on the man. The police arrived within about six minutes,” added Řičář.

According to him and a rough estimate, the damage to the damaged hospital equipment will amount to tens of thousands of crowns.

The matter is now being handled by the police. “After the patrol arrived at the scene, an intervention was already carried out by the hospital’s security. The man was placed in a psychiatric ward. The police officers performed an indicative breath test on him for the presence of alcohol in his body and also a drug test, both of which were negative. Now, the police officers from the Liberec-centre district department are investigating the damage to the property and the whole incident,” added Vladimíra Šrýtrová, spokeswoman for the Liberec police.

The hospital’s spokesperson pointed out that they encounter cases of aggressive behavior here quite often. “In a week, there are two or three cases of verbal or moderate physical violence. It’s not something that happens rarely,” said Václav Řičář.
