Sparta had a two-minute five-on-three power play advantage right at the start, but goalkeeper Pavlát only had to deal with a dangerous shot by Horák. The scoreless situation changed only in the 11th minute, when Chlapík made a breakthrough. Pavlát’s counterpart Kovář was out of work and everything indicated that he would not score a single save in the first period.
However, Clapík was sent off in the 18th minute and Lev equalized after the first Pilsen shot. Kovář thus experienced the same situation as during his previous start in Pardubice, where he also conceded from his opponent’s first attempt. Even against Dynamo, it was weakened, after only 61 seconds of the game.
At the beginning of the second half, however, Sparta regained the lead when Forman came through. In addition, 51 seconds later, he confirmed the continued superiority of the home Germans with a shot into the open goal, and it seemed that the people of Prague would break the resistance of the West Bohemians.
But in the 27th minute, he hit exactly under the top bar of Piskáček and scored his first goal of the season. Subsequently, Lajunen was sent off, Plzeň did not use the second power play in the match and it was tied. But Sparta managed to take the lead back again. Kempný first hit the post on the power play, but Irving after Horák’s excellent pass already aimed accurately.
Still in the second period, Sparta was held back twice by Kovář, who had to be careful in the final 20 minutes.
Plzeň increased its activity even during the five-on-five game. He scored important saves especially during Forman’s exclusion. In the 56th minute, Kousal could have brought the home team closer, but after a quick counterattack, he only hit the post. However, it didn’t freeze for the home team in the end, Forman secured their win on the power play.
