The Czech Republic excels in burying industry. Former member of the board of directors of Škoda Auto Bohdan Wojnar stated this on the CNN Prima NEWS broadcast. His words were also confirmed by the chairman of the Kovo Trade Union, Roman Ďurčo, who added that the increase in the regulated component of electricity is the “last nail”.

According to the proposal of the Energy Regulatory Office (ERÚ), the regulated component of electricity for households will increase by 71 percent compared to this year, which for households will mean a price increase of about 1,408 crowns per megawatt hour (MWh) including VAT. And the regulated part of the price of electricity for large customers will rise even more significantly – it will increase by 113 percent at the high voltage level and 206 percent at the very high voltage level.

According to experts, this can cause the collapse of several companies. “The increase in the price of energy was the last nail that we recorded within the Kovo trade union,” noted Ďurčo on the CNN Prima NEWS broadcast. He added that for energy-intensive companies, electricity can become even more expensive by up to 250 percent, which can be fatal for some companies. “They may lose their competitiveness, and we also perceive a great threat to jobs there. This leads us to really go into the toughest protests,” pointed out Ďurčo, recalling the strike that the unions announced on November 27.

Wojnar pointed out that Europe has been burying its industry for 20 years and “unfortunately we are becoming negative winners in this regard”. According to the expert, the increase in energy prices only increases the nervousness prevailing in the market. According to him, it’s just a question of how many more “pestilences the industry can withstand”.
