“On Saturday, a few minutes before midnight, the police patrol noticed a vehicle leaving Kydlinovská street on the main road of Antonín Dvořák towards Koutníkova street without its headlights on. The police officer driving in the opposite direction at that time turned around behind the car and gave it a call to stop using light and sound equipment,” explained Iva Kormošová, spokeswoman for the Králové Hradec Regional Police.
What followed was a frantic chase through the streets of Hradec, when the driver was outrunning the police at speeds of up to 120 km/h, driving in the opposite direction even at red lights and overtaking where it is prohibited.
“One time he even went around a police car, and during the second attempt to go around, he crashed into an official vehicle. As a result of the collision, the car was thrown and subsequently crashed into the underlay of the pavement. Fortunately, there were no injuries in the accident,” said Kormošová.
He was drunk and disqualified from driving
The damage to the passenger vehicle was estimated at 30,000, the police transporter at 120,000 and the undercarriage at 1,000 crowns.
The police arrested the man and subjected him to a breathalyzer test, which showed over two per million of alcohol in his breath. He had a negative drug orientation test.
“In the records, the police found that the 26-year-old man has been banned from driving all motor vehicles for a year from the end of December 2022. After he sobered up, the police informed the man of suspicion of the criminal offenses of endangerment under the influence of an addictive substance and obstructing the execution of an official decision, for which he faces up to three years behind bars,” added the police spokeswoman.
