The police received a report of a very strange object at the 88th kilometer on Tuesday at five minutes before seven. “The nearest patrol was dispatched to the scene. There was a danger that the lying object would be overlooked by passing drivers and hit the sofa,” said police spokeswoman Dana Čírtková.
That happened immediately. About five minutes later, the truck driver called that a couch had fallen into his path. He could not react to the situation and crashed his Volvo with a semi-trailer into a piece of furniture. There were no injuries or consequences in the accident.
And the third driver immediately called the emergency line. He was standing in the parking lot at the 89th kilometer and discovered that the couch he was transporting on a trailer behind his car was missing.
“While driving in the right lane, the couch fell from the trailer because it was not properly secured. This 58-year-old driver thus committed a traffic offense by his actions, because he endangered the safety of traffic on the roads,” stated Čírtková.
The culprit of the whole event received a block fine for unsecured cargo. He and the truck driver who crashed into the couch had to breathe. Both breath tests for alcohol were negative.
“The Highway Administration and Maintenance crew loaded the sofa set with the assistance of highway police officers and transported it to a parking lot a kilometer away, where its owner took over the load,” added the police spokeswoman.
At the same time, she recalled the need to adequately secure and secure the transported cargo from falling onto the road. “On the highway, this situation is particularly serious, given the high volume of traffic,” she emphasized.
