Despite the barbaric acts of the terrorist organization Hamas, financial support continues to flow from the European Union to Gaza. The amount is even increasing, and according to the latest announcement by the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, about 100 million euros will go to the Palestinians. In the last fifteen years, 1.24 billion euros per year flowed into the territory of Gaza from EU countries. When comparing the size of the economies, the Czech Republic received ten times less money.
The continued subsidization of the Gaza Strip is strongly criticized by many politicians. Czech government and opposition representatives also agree on the rejection position. “I wouldn’t give them a dollar or a euro. I wouldn’t mess with them at all until they release the last hostage,” said MEP Alexandr Vondra (ODS) on CNN Prima NEWS about European aid.

He said this at a time when it was decided to send 75 million euros in humanitarian aid. Since then, however, it has been increased to 100 million euros. According to the head of the European Commission, the money goes mainly to protect and help civilians who move in the territory of Gaza.
But critics point out that Hamas actually controls the receipt of money. Funds can therefore flow directly to the production of weapons or other military equipment.
But the Palestinians cannot complain about the lack of money. Since 2008, when the terrorist organization Hamas came to power, the European Union has contributed generous amounts. According to the material European Joint Strategy in support of Palestine 2021-2024, it was even 1.24 billion euros per year.
If the sizes of the economy of Palestine and the Czech Republic were to be compared, the Czech Republic received a tenfold smaller volume of money. “EU countries have been literally showering Palestine, including Gaza, with billions of euros for many years. At the same time, there is confusion about where it flows. For example, according to a 2013 report by the European Court of Auditors, two billion euros were lost from European aid to Palestine between 2008 and 2012,” said Lukáš Kovanda, Trinity Bank’s chief economist.
Even money for roads will be used by terrorists, warns the economist
Money does not go purely to the Gaza Strip from the European Union. In addition to the official self-government led by President Mahmoud Abbas, the support is addressed mainly to the Palestine Liberation Organization and also to the Fatah movement, which controls the West Bank. In addition to humanitarian aid, the EU also sends money to the UN Office for Palestine Refugees.
“Even if all the hundreds of millions of dollars that the EU sends to Gaza every year were spent down to the last cent purely for humanitarian and development purposes, the Union is still financing terrorism, albeit indirectly. Because if the roads in Gaza are repaired with EU money, the ruling Hamas will have even more left to buy Iranian weapons or train thugs,” Kovanda pointed out.
According to him, therefore, there is no isolated and targeted aid to the needy in the Gaza Strip. “It’s a dangerous alibi. The only way not to sponsor, even indirectly, bloodshed and massacres is to stop financial aid to Gaza,” he added.
