A new twenty-five-meter indoor pool could be built within a few years in the area of the Olomouc Aquapark on the outskirts of the city. During the reconstruction of the large hall of the swimming stadium, it should be used mainly by schools and sports clubs, and in case of free capacity, also by the public.
Olomouc councilors have already given the go-ahead for the construction of a new twenty-five meter indoor swimming pool. The project, which is a condition for submitting a subsidy application, is to be prepared by Aquapark Olomouc.
“If everything goes well, construction could begin between 2025 and 2026. We are in a situation where the swimming stadium is being urgently renovated. While in other regional cities with a similarly developed sports base, the water area has been expanding in recent years, Olomouc is lagging behind in this respect,” stated company director Dalibor Přikryl.

For teaching and fitness swimming
According to him, the new pool is a necessity not only because of the planned reconstruction and the necessary closure of the swimming stadium during repairs, but also because the current area for recreational and fitness swimming is no longer sufficient.
“If we don’t offer swimmers other options after the reconstruction, we won’t be able to satisfy the public’s demand, just like before. There is currently no teaching pool in the city for compulsory swimming lessons for school-aged children. The construction of the new campus should solve both of these long-term problems. Our company is able to provide financing for the project using a high subsidy,” described Dalibor Přikryl.

“Don’t waste an opportunity”
The expected price of the project for the building permit is 10 to 12 million crowns, it will be financed by Aquapark Olomouc. The new covered water area should be created on the land adjacent to the summer part of the water park.
“The decision to prepare the project for construction is an effort by us and the city management not only to prevent the desperate situation of sports clubs and the swimming public during and after the reconstruction of the swimming stadium, but also not to waste the opportunity to receive a high subsidy, which may not be repeated in the future,” explained company director Dalibor Covered up.

The stadium can be repaired for up to two years
The indoor swimming stadium from 1965 already needs a complete reconstruction, which can take up to two years.
“After decades, technologies are aging, just as the construction and technical solution of the stadium and facilities for swimmers are no longer satisfactory. That’s why for us the project of a new indoor 25 is a kind of back-up solution for the future, just for the time of the reconstruction of the existing swimming stadium,” said Mayor Miroslav Žbánek.

Whether the construction of a replacement water area will take place within a few years will largely depend on receiving a subsidy from the National Sports Agency. According to the study, a small pool hall should cost approximately 250 million crowns. The subsidy could reach 70 to 100 million crowns.
