It is the fastest and most modern regional track in the Czech Republic. However, the trains there are facing an unexpected problem. Traffic on the line between Olomouc and Uničov is paradoxically complicated by the so-called ETCS security device.
Many trains stop directly on the track and the driver cannot influence its operation. On average, it adds five to seven minutes to travel times. According to Czech Railways, over 50 trains were delayed in the past week alone due to an ETCS outage.
According to the Railway Administration, several-second signal outages between the track and on-board parts of ETCS are to blame. It is this system that is to ensure safety on all main railway lines in the Czech Republic in the future.
According to the regional coordinator in charge of transport in Olomouc, train delays are already discouraging many passengers. They then return to the cars again.
