It is not yet clear which schools in the capital will be on strike. According to the town halls contacted, they will have information on whether the school will join the strike next week at the earliest. “We are finding out the information, the schools have until Wednesday. So far, it looks like there won’t be a strike in our schools,” said, for example, Prague 1 spokesperson Karolína Šnejdarová.

Do you support the teachers’ strike?

In Prague 6, according to spokesman Marko Zeman, the schools are going to join rather symbolically, so as not to take children and parents hostage. However, the management of the town hall supports the teacher. “I completely agree with the demands with which the school unions are going on strike and I am ready to support our directors in all respects. And if, in the end, some schools join the strike, I will respect that and in that case we are ready to ensure the operation of school groups or patrols in schools,” said Deputy Mayor Mariana Čapková (Prague 6 Sobě).

The management of Prague 7 is also connected with the schools. “They are currently discussing it. We should have concrete information next week,” said spokesman Martin Vokuš. The situation is similar in Prague 4. “According to our information, meetings are taking place in schools,” said Vít Drbal from the press department of the town hall. The City Hall of Prague 2 does not intend to interfere in the decisions of the schools, but according to spokeswoman Andrea Zoulová, the district management does not foresee mass participation of schools in the strike. Roughly five days before the strike date, he expects the decision of the schools of the Prague 8 town hall.

In the capital, the founder of secondary schools is the municipality, which, according to spokesman Vít Hofman, does not yet have information from the individual schools as to whether they will go on strike. Elementary and kindergarten schools then establish town districts.

Trade unionists seek more money for education. According to them, the government is taking children hostage with the cuts it has prepared.
