In the 15th round of FORTUNA:LIGY, SK Sigma Olomouc football players are waiting for ninety minutes. On Sunday from 18:00 they play at Andrová Stadium against Slavia Prague. That is, to the elite team of the highest competition, who last beat the star-studded AC Milan at home in the European Cup.
Sigma is on a five-match unbeaten streak. But she can’t be completely satisfied. In the previous three rounds, it only drew with teams from the basement of the league standings. “Everyone who follows Czech football knows how Slavia presents itself in the long term. It’s a strong, aggressive and agile team, it’s nothing new for us. But every opponent can be defeated. In the Czech league, even for Slavia, no match is easy. We will definitely try to win,” said Jiří Saňák, assistant coach of SK Sigma Olomouc. “The recipe in such matches, when you are facing a favorite, is usually always the same. It’s about teamwork, about making sure everything clicks into place on D-day and H-hour. Slavia had a similar situation against AS Rome, for example. You have to perform at the limit of your potential in multiple positions. You need that to be successful when you play against the best,” he said.
Last year in October, Sigma beat Slavia 2:0 at home. “It will be important for us to be effective and when we create chances, we need to convert them. That was also the case in the last two matches, when we had more chances than the opponent, but we didn’t convert and that’s why we only drew. Against Slavia, it will be important that we manage to be dangerous for them,” said Saňák.
The first start for Sigma can be attributed to the former international Filip Novák “He is already prepared for the match. He can play left-back and left-back, in a three-man or four-man defence. It opens up more options for us. We’ll see how we get on. We have some cracks in the team and we will see if all the players will be available in the end. We will decide accordingly,” said Saňák.
After Sunday’s game, the last representative break of the season will begin. The national team will play in Olomouc against Moldova.
The match SK Sigma Olomouc – SK Slavia Prague will be played on Sunday, November 12 at 6:00 p.m. Delegated to the match was a trio of referees in the composition of Stanislav Volek – Kamil Hájek, Lukáš Machač.
