The explosion of a bomb in a police car is headed to court, the public prosecutor has filed an indictment

The case will be dealt with by the District Court in Cheb, said Czech Television, which drew attention to the indictment.

The car was parked in front of the police department. The man placed an explosive device under the hood, ignited it and fled.

“The explosion damaged the hood of the vehicle, the engine part, the windshield and the dashboard. Firefighters were immediately called to the vehicle and prevented the fire. The explosion also damaged the right front door of the company vehicle of colleagues from neighboring Germany standing next to it,” said regional police spokesman Jakub Kopřiva.

The police arrested the perpetrator about an hour after the explosion. The man justified the attack with his current personal problems. The police initially charged him with public endangerment, since the explosion occurred in a populated part of the city and could endanger people’s safety.

In the indictment, however, there is only violence against a public body. According to the criminal code, the man faces a sentence of two to eight years, because the attack was carried out with a weapon.

The explosion occurred in a densely built-up area of ​​the city near apartment buildings. “Given his education and experience with pyrotechnics, the perpetrator must have been aware that after the initial explosion, the company vehicle, as well as the cars parked next to it, could subsequently explode, thereby endangering people living in nearby prefab houses. Fortunately, none of this happened,” added the police spokesman.
