Prime Minister Petr Fiala (ODS) was greeted by his own effigies posted in the streets during his visit to Africa, he described in an interview with CNN Prima NEWS. According to him, the non-traditional outdoor decoration was meant to show respect for the Czech Republic. The Prime Minister was on an official trip to African states from November 3 to 11. During that time he visited Ethiopia, Kenya, Ghana and the Ivory Coast. According to the Government Office, this was the longest working trip of a top representative of the Czech Republic in the region to date.
Fiala’s state visit to African countries was accompanied by a number of cultural attractions. “Somewhere, the streets were also decorated with my portraits. It’s strange, but we have to respect that they want to show respect. Not to me, but to the Czech Republic. He appreciates that the Prime Minister of the Czech Republic came for the first time,” he told CNN Prima NEWS before the end of his foreign trip.

“They see us as a country that is economically strong, interesting, famous for its products and politically successful. These are all things that play a role. Their attention is also expressed in ceremonial and symbolic things, which we in Europe do not pay so much attention to. But here they represent an important matter,” added the prime minister.
