Today, February 1, 2024, the regular sharp operation of line 58, the first modern trolleybus line in Prague, begins. On this day, bus route 140 ceases to exist.
“The line for electric buses from Palmovka to Miškovice is an example where electric drive really makes sense. It will partially rid part of Prague of emissions from diesel engines, which as representatives of Prague 8 we absolutely welcome,” said Prague 8 Mayor Ondřej Gros.
The first trolleybus for heavy traffic will leave Palmovka on Thursday. Transport company hl. The city of Prague launched its first trolleybus in October 2022, namely on the Letňany – Čakovice line, which it built as part of the project to electrify bus line 140 (Palmovka – Miškovice). It happened symbolically on the day exactly 50 years after the end of trolleybus operation in Prague and 5 years since the start of pilot operation in Prosecká street. The city expects that the metropolis will become the largest operator of trolleybus transport in the country after the completion of all planned projects.
The Letňany – Čakovice section is part of the first full-scale trolleybus line built in Prague 50 years after the operation of trolleybuses ceased here on October 15, 1972. DPP started to build the trolleybus infrastructure as part of the project to electrify bus line 140 from Palmovka to Miškovice, which will change to trolleybus line 58 after its completion and the start of full trolleybus operation.
