Before driving the van, the driver got stronger with alcohol, and then crashed twice on the roads in Prague. First, he hit a car from behind and drove away. Ten minutes later, he caused another accident in which he injured a traffic policeman on duty. He tried to flee again, but the police caught up with him.
A policeman from the road surveillance department of the Prague traffic police found himself in danger on Saturday, January 28 in Chlumecká Street. He and his colleague measured the speed there. “At the moment when the police officer was standing next to the vehicle of one of the offenders, out of nowhere, the driver of the van crashed into him with the rear-view mirror and the side of the vehicle,” the Prague police spokeswoman described to the website Eva Kropáčová.
The culprit did not stop and fled the scene. The second police officer checked the injured person and then went after the van. “A 55-year-old man with damage to the front of the vehicle and a punctured front tire stopped the vehicle in the parking lot of a fast food restaurant, where a police officer blocked it with an official vehicle,” said Kropáčová.
The drivers measured more than one and a half per thousand in their breath. As it turned out later, just ten minutes before hitting the policeman, he caused the accident in Bryksova Street. He hit another vehicle from behind and drove off.
The drunkard was charged with the criminal offense of endangerment under the influence of an addictive substance and the criminal offense of failure to provide first aid by the driver of a vehicle, for which he faces up to three years in prison if convicted.
“Fortunately, the police officer who was crushed by the driver against the offender’s vehicle did not suffer any serious injuries, but he still had to be treated in hospital for chest and back pain and is now unable to work,” added Kropáčová.
