The exhibition entitled Africa of dreams … and reality in front of the Pilsen Study and Science Library for the whole of February commemorates the 105th anniversary of the birth of local native Miroslav Zikmund. It is composed of comparative photos of the famous traveling couple Hanzelka and Zikmund from Africa and images taken by the current Z101 expedition in the same places, but 75 years apart. Linda Piknerová, an Africanist and member of the Z101 expedition, told ČTK. The Z101 expedition, whose main representative is Tomáš Vaňourek, set off for Africa in April 2021. After three years of traveling, it collected a lot of experiences, photos and video footage. The journey ends this April. “On the 16 panels, there are comparative images from Tunisia, Egypt, Sudan, Ethiopia and Kenya, supplemented by stories from the H+Z travel diaries (Hanzelka and Zikmund) and the current observations of Tomáš Vaňourk, who travels through Africa with his expedition special called George after Jiří Hanzelek Pikner said. “The goal of the trip is to show how the world is changing and we are changing with it. Through comparative images, we are returning the history of its color and we believe that in this way we will revive the unique cultural legacy associated with the city of Pilsen, and therefore the entire Czech Republic,” said Vaňurek.
