This year, the first district of Pilsen plans to invest 121 million crowns. One of the largest districts, which includes the largest housing estate in the Severní Předměstí, is planning this year, for example, to modify the inner block in Sokolovská street, the construction of a bouldering wall or a facility for a children’s group near the Košutecký lake.

The interior block in Sokolovská Street in Lochotín is in for a major transformation. “The locals will look forward to the modification of the existing playground, the repair of sidewalks, the placement of outdoor exercise elements, the construction of a sandpit with benches, but also the planting of new greenery,” said Deputy Mayor Miroslav Šuma, who is in charge of the investments. The project was taken up by the Projectstudio8 architectural office, which held meetings with local residents.

“It’s good when locals get involved in the creation of public space, because they know the area best after all. Sokolovská street is a high-quality space that will be greatly helped and improved by revitalization. It will certainly be necessary to intervene in the greenery, some trees have a lot of competition here and do not thrive, some bushes are overgrown and it does not look nice; instead of them, we want to plant others that have a free lower floor,” said architect Ondřej Janout. More than ten million crowns have been earmarked for the project.

Further investments will go to Bolevec. A set of bouldering walls will be built next to the widely used pump track on Plaská (near Třemošenské rybník). It will be four differently shaped, 2.8 meter high walls with climbing holds, which will stand on an area of almost 250 m2. “We have tentatively allocated 4.5 million crowns from the budget for this project,” said Andrea Šlechtová, head of the Department of Investments of the ÚMO Plzeň 1.

This is the place where the building known as Bacardi used to stand, which went down in 2020 due to a state of emergency.

“We have reserved more than 40 million crowns for the construction, it is our largest investment event. However, we want to recover a large part of the costs with the help of a subsidy title from the National Recovery Fund. Specifically, it is a challenge: Building the capacities of children’s groups. This subsidy can be up to 25 million crowns,” added Šlechtová. The project at Košutecký jezírko is based on the originally planned Paluba Jezírko project, which the management of Jednička decided to revise last year. “This is a compromise to the originally intended project, which only included refreshments. This is how we moved it forward. The spaces for the children’s group and refreshments will of course be structurally separate,” explained Deputy Mayor Šuma.

Around 16 million crowns will go to two kindergartens in the district this year. In the summer months, electrical installations will be reconstructed in the 7th Kindergarten in Kralovická Street and in the 91st Kindergarten in Jesenická Street. The project to expand the capacity of the 81st Kindergarten in Vinice is also still alive. Last year, the expert jury selected the winning study of the Projectstudio8 office, which is currently working on the project. The next stage will be obtaining the relevant permits, and construction could begin in 2026.

On the list of this year’s investment events, the district management also included the expansion of the dog meadow in U Bazénu park, which is a topic that the citizens themselves came up with. The revitalization of the meadow behind the elementary school in Vinice will also be completed this year. “Initially we thought that the construction would be completed at the beginning of this year. However, we are still waiting for the implementation of separate electrical connections for the cafe and the fountain, which is provided by ČEZ, and they have already postponed the deadline twice,” explained Šlechtová. This year, the first district of Pilsen will also complete two natural cycle trails near the Senecký pond (approx. 1,950 and 1,550 meters in length), which it started building last fall.

The district also continues to build parking spaces on the housing estate. 18 new spaces will be created behind the children’s traffic playground in Tachovská street, and the plan is to expand the existing parking lot between Sokolovská houses 90 and 106.
