Prague – On February 10, the Harry Potter in Concert project will transport visitors to Prague’s O2 universe to the wizarding world of Harry Potter. Two screenings of the film Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone, accompanied by the ninety-member City of Prague Philharmonic Orchestra, will follow up on the successful performance in Bratislava, where last year it was performed by the Slovak Radio Symphony Orchestra. The audience is waiting for the movie story of Harry and his friends projected on a big screen. Hogwarts flags and other items from the School of Witchcraft and Wizardry complete the atmosphere. ČTK was informed about this by concert promoter Tibor Engler.

“Visitors to the performance will see a large musical ensemble and the enormous energy of those ninety people, which they will not experience even in the cinema, on a laptop or on a phone,” said Engler.

The project, produced in cooperation with the film studio Warner Bros, uses the original music of the American composer John Williams, who composed the music for more than a hundred films and won a number of awards. Among other things, he is the owner of an Oscar for the films Fiddler on the Roof, Jaws, Star Wars: Episode IV, ET – The Alien or Schindler’s List. The American Film Institute named his score for Star Wars the best film score of the 20th century.

“This is the highest quality film music, Williams, with his classical and jazz education, is the author of incredibly imaginative and interpretatively demanding music,” said Engler, who works as a pianist at the Prague recording studio Smecky Music Studios.

The City of Prague Philharmonic Orchestra in Prague will be led by the Dutch conductor Ernst van Tiel, one of the few experts in leading an orchestra accompanying live music to the action taking place on the film screen. “For the orchestra, the concert is similar to a classical concert. It plays from the notes according to the conductor, who has the task of synchronizing the entire orchestra with the running film according to the metronome. Keeping ninety musicians playing in sync with the running film is alchemy,” said Engler. “Ernst van Tiel likes to say that you can’t stop the film, you have to stick with it,” he added.

Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone is a 2001 British-American film based on the book of the same name by British writer JK Rowling. In the first part of the adventures of the sorcerer’s apprentice Potter, the audience will learn about learning at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, where the express leaves from the secret platform 9 3/4, with the Wise Hat, Quidditch or the Forbidden Forest. The film, directed by Chris Columbus, had a budget of $125 million and grossed $978.1 million worldwide.
