The Prague municipality received 32 comments on the draft decree, which the municipality wants to charge for entry to the Malá Strana part and the Smetana embankment.
Municipality spokesman Vít Hofman told the media. In addition to city districts, initiatives were submitted by municipal unions, the Ministry of the Interior, and food import companies. Commenting on the proposal ended on Wednesday, now the municipality will process the suggestions. After that, the city council and council should decide on the proposal.
Prague 2, 3, 8, 9 or 10, for example, do not agree with the proposal of the decree, which is supposed to introduce tolls for the entry of non-residents to the Smetana embankment and the surrounding streets, together with the part of Malá Strana on the other bank of the Vltava River. 1, 7 or 11.
Hofman said that of the total number of comments, 21 of them came from town halls and five from municipal unions. “A number of municipal districts of the capital city of Prague submitted fundamental or disagreeing comments to the proposal. In general, it can be said that a large part of the comments are aimed at the traffic situation, or contain proposals to add to or modify the range of taxpayers exempt from the fee,” said the spokesperson.
He added that a number of comments came only on the last day of the deadline, so the office is still familiar with them and will deal with them gradually in the coming weeks. According to Hofman, comments have also arrived from the National Security Office, the Trade and Tourism Association of the Czech Republic and the companies Wolt, Bolt Food and foodora.
According to the plan of the municipality, the restriction of entry to the part of Prague 1 should be fully automatic and legally based on a so-called local fee. So it will not be a toll in the true sense of the word, as the legislation does not allow it now. According to the representatives of the city management, the main reason for the measure is to improve the passability of trams, which are now getting delayed due to car traffic in the given locations.
