In Olomouc, the number of patients with acute respiratory infections, including flu, increased significantly. The situation in this district is the worst in the Olomouc Region, where overall morbidity this week exceeded the threshold of 2,000 cases per 100,000 inhabitants.
Severe cases requiring intensive care increased, hygienists recorded two flu-related deaths as of Friday.
This week, hygienists recorded an increase in the incidence of acute respiratory infections, including influenza, by 13.6 percent in the Olomouc region compared to the previous week, to 2,020 cases per 100,000 inhabitants.

It jumped sharply to Olomouc, from where ambulances report the most cases – 2,484 cases in conversion. For comparison, in the same week last year, it was half.
On the contrary, in Šumperska, the number of patients with acute respiratory infections who have seen a doctor is the lowest – 1,368. Jesenice reports 1,424, Přerovsko 1,580 and Prostějovsko 2,395 cases per 100,000 inhabitants.
“The highest morbidity was recorded in the age group under five years, the lowest in the age group over 65 years,” said Markéta Koutná, spokeswoman for the Regional Hygiene Station of the Olomouc Region.

The infection usually first spreads in children’s collectives, and after a few weeks, the higher morbidity is manifested in adults who stay at home with them, and finally in the elderly.

Increase in severe cases and deaths
Compared to the previous week, the flu has jumped significantly.
“We have recorded an increase in the relative morbidity of diseases with a clinical picture of influenza (ILI, Influenza-like illness), specifically by 69 percent,” spokeswoman Koutná informed.
This week, the number of cases of influenza with a clinically serious course requiring intensive care also increased from 4 to 11, including 2 deaths.
“In all cases, it is influenza type A,” said Markéta Koutná about the severe cases.

Covid has subsided
In the case of covid, hygienists are registering fewer sick people than in the previous week and they currently have no reported mass incidence of this disease.
The number of patients with respiratory viruses, including the flu, has been rising significantly in recent weeks. Before the end of the year, in connection with the Christmas holidays, the number rather decreased, which experts observe every year.
Limiting hospital visits
According to hygienists, the announcement of restrictions or bans on visits to hospitals is at the discretion of the management of individual facilities. Restrictions now apply in some wards of inpatient facilities.
Since February 1, due to the deterioration of the epidemiological situation, a ban on visits to the I. internal clinic-cardiology of the Olomouc University Hospital has been announced.
