A woman from Olomouc wanted to sell a refrigerator, a fraudster robbed her of almost a quarter of a million

“A woman advertised a refrigerator for sale through an internet portal. This ad was responded to by an as yet unknown offender, with whom they agreed on payment and transport with the help of the company Zásilkovna,” said the spokeswoman.

The injured woman received an email with information about the successful sale of the goods together with a link to the company Zásilkovna.

“However, after clicking on the link, the woman was redirected to a fraudulent website posing as that of Zásilkovny, where she entered her online banking credentials,” the spokeswoman described. The woman thus gave the perpetrator access to her internet banking without suspecting it.

“Thus, the perpetrator easily took control of her banking and made several payments in the amount of at least 235,000 crowns,” stated Skoupilová.

According to her, the police officers are investigating the case on suspicion of committing the crime of fraud and the crime of unauthorized measure, forgery and alteration of a means of payment, for which there is a risk of up to eight years behind bars if found guilty and sentenced.

“We appeal to citizens who sell goods on advertising or similar portals to pay attention whenever a buyer sends them a link to a transport company that should also ensure the transport of goods in addition to payment. These are fake links, so do not enter your payment card or internet banking details into them,” the police spokeswoman concluded.
