After the first fast driver, a patrol in a civilian Superb with a radar set off on Saturday around half past seven in the direction of Prague. At the 114th kilometer she measured his speed at 189 km/h, at the 111th kilometer she stopped him. The Audi A7 was driven by a fifty-one-year-old Czech.

Two other low-flying pilots were spotted by police radars on Monday. First, in the morning at the 115th kilometer, again in the direction of Prague, it was a twenty-year-old foreigner in an Audi Q7 who flew past the police Superb at a speed of 193 kilometers per hour.

Shortly after noon, a forty-one-year-old foreigner driving a Ferrari with a Czech license plate became the Easter record holder. He just flashed past the patrol at the 131st kilometer in the direction of Brno. The police radar showed 218 kilometers per hour. The patrol caught up with him too and stopped him.

For all three high speeding offenses, the police officers confiscated the driver’s licenses on the spot. “This possibility is given to us by the amendment to the Act on Road Traffic valid from this year,” pointed out police spokeswoman Dana Čírtková.

According to this law, if a driver exceeds the maximum permitted speed in the municipality by 40 or more, and outside the municipality by 50 or more kilometers per hour, the police can actually withhold his driver’s license on the spot. The offense is then dealt with in administrative proceedings, where there is a risk of a fine of 25 thousand crowns and a driving ban for six to eighteen months. That’s exactly how, as hard as they could, the policemen proceeded on the highway. Foreigners were also bailed.

“I consider driving on the D1 at a speed exceeding 200 kilometers per hour to be gambling with human life. There was heavy traffic on Saturday and Monday, and these drivers could endanger other road users with their driving,” stated Jiří Šoukal, head of the highway department in Velký Beranov.
