The boy was born already at the 35th week of pregnancy, but at first everything seemed fine. He did not have a sucking reflex, but after a month he began to gain weight and, thanks to exercise, he soon caught up with his peers and even learned to walk. Then, unfortunately, came the twist. Ondra suffered a so-called hypotonic attack, during which he suffered a serious head injury.
Since then, his development has slowed down, and for two long years, doctors have been trying to figure out what exactly is wrong with the boy. Finally came the terrible diagnosis – childhood autism, severe mental retardation, epilepsy, tuberous sclerosis (TSC), kyphosis, lordosis, scoliosis, Hidradenitis suppurativu (abbreviated HS) of the immune type and others.
Ondřej’s father left the family shortly after the diagnosis. Mom was left alone for everything. It is demanding for her financially and mentally. Ondra is fully in diapers, does not snore, speaks poorly, cannot walk for long periods, has painful ulcers, cannot dress himself and is fully dependent on the help of others.
The insurance company will not cover the device
He also needs an oxygen machine from covid. “The insurance company will only reimburse him for the one he currently has. However, it weighs 10 kilos and must be permanently connected to electricity.” explained Anna Strnadová, chairwoman of the board of directors of the charity organization Život dětem, Anna Strnadová. “It has already happened many times that mom and Ondra didn’t even make it to the scheduled examination and had to return home or urgently call an ambulance,” she added.
The battery-powered device lasts up to eight hours and is compact, lightweight and has replaceable batteries. Unfortunately, its price is 101,868 crowns, which my mother cannot afford. She takes care of her son 24 hours a day. Therefore, he cannot work and lives only on the care allowance.
It was the organization Život dětem pro familia that made available a transparent account where everyone can contribute any amount and thus help Ondra and his mother to a better life. If more money could be collected, it would be used to help the assistant and also to buy a car.
“Ondřej finds it very difficult to manage contact with people and traveling by public transport. In these situations, he is triggering epileptic seizures. Therefore, the mother and the boy only have to drive in a car, but she doesn’t have her own, so she manages these situations only thanks to her friend, who temporarily lent her an old car. However, it is only a matter of time how long it will still be mobile,” Strnadová explained.
“That’s why we’re asking everyone, help Ondra directly. Send the boy any amount to transparent account 1117771700 / 5500 with variable symbol 2626,” she added in conclusion.
