The accident happened shortly after noon on the main road from Pilsen to Karlovy Vary, specifically near Chotíkov at the Robin Oil gas station.
Police spokeswoman Michaela Raindlová said that the 71-year-old driver of the Škoda Felicia was headed for Pilsen. “For as yet unknown reasons, he drove in the opposite direction, where he collided head-on with an oncoming Škoda Octavia vehicle. It was driven by a sixty-nine-year-old man,” she described.
Initial information said that a 67-year-old woman was also traveling in the Skoda Octavia. However, during the investigation, it was revealed that she was driving in Felicia.
Mária Svobodová from the regional ambulance said that the 71-year-old man suffered extensive injuries and died on the spot. “The 67-year-old patient had multiple injuries and was in serious condition. A helicopter transported her to the emergency department of the Pilsen University Hospital,” she said. A 69-year-old man also ended up in a medical facility with moderate injuries.
“We have ordered an autopsy on the deceased. The case was taken over by criminal investigators from Plzeň-Venkov,” concluded Raindlová.
